The last 16 months have been an unprecedented time in human history.

Travel stopped, millions experienced drastically reduced connections with loved ones, and the world forever altered its views on togetherness. However, during this time, some truly amazing stories were captured by the world's most talented photographers.

The BarTur Photo Awards 2021 celebrates these stories. The awards categories of Climate Change, Unity and Diversity, and the newly added: Human Love, have never been more appropriate. Over 5000 international photographers took the challenge to share the intimate, tragic, inspiring, and thought-provoking stories captured during an unprecedented time in human history.

New Prize Categories for 2021:

Building on the success of the 2020 awards, The BarTur Photo Awards added two new prize categories for 2021.

In addition to the three original prize categories, which featured: The Professional Award, The Basecamp Award for Best Student Photographer, and The Chris Wainwright Award for Climate Change, two new categories were added: The BarTur Award for Faces of Humanity, and Leica Fotographie International/The BarTur Award: Photojournalist of the the Year 2021.

Record Levels of Submissions

The competition was open to professional and student photographers, attracting a record 11500+ images from 80 countries. As a result of the pandemic, The BarTur Photo Awards waived all entry fees for 2021 submissions and invited photographers from all over the world to submit their work completely free of charge.
