Sudan's War Refugees
Sudan's war has created the world's largest displacement and deadliest hunger crises. This series documents life and death in the refugee camps of eastern Chad, where 700,000 Darfuris have sought safety since the outbreak of Sudan's war in April 2023. “Conservative estimates say the conflict has killed at least 15,500 people, while some estimates are as high as 150,000, and counting,” according to the International Rescue Committee. The first 10 images document the final hours of Naimat Ahmed’s life, and her death. The 10-year-old girl fled the war in Sudan and waves of attacks on her Masalit community in Darfur, including one where her grandmother was shot and killed and her older sister wounded.
