The Guardian features BarTur Photobook Award Winner Angus Fraser for his work 'Santa Muerte'.

A cult condemned as satanic by the Catholic church has millions of followers in Mexico and the United States. Santa Muerte or Saint Death is a female folk saint with roots in both Aztec ritual and Catholic belief. Angus Fraser has been photographing its devotees, shrines and rituals since 2011, culminating in a new Book ‘Santa Muerte’ which is published by The Photographers’ Gallery in London and Trolley Books on 15 September. Fraser is the inaurgral winner of the Bar Tur Photobook Award which supported the publication of his project.
