Yuyang Liu
Yuyang Liu, born in Sichuan in 1991. He is based between Chengdu and Shanghai, China currently.
He tells stories with pictures and became a jury of ADC 98th Annual Awards in the photography section, had been selected as Nine Chinese Photographers You Need to Follow by TIME magazine and emerging photographer of PDN 30 in 2017. He also won Magnum Foundation Human Rights and Photography Fellowship, Ian Parry Scholarship, and Abigail Cohen Fellowship in Documentary Photography, etc.
His work has been published on TIME, The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, etc. and exhibited in New York, London, Shanghai, Paris, and Beijing, etc. He also collaborates with NGOs such as UNICEF, Greenpeace, WWF, and Save the Children. His commercial clients include Apple, Nike, Airbnb, Harbin Beer, Xiaomi, and JD, etc.
As COVID-19 changes the world continuously and forever, the way people live has been changed deeply, as well as the connection of the world. Political hatred and racism spread and we're closing the society. Are we going to a more closed world eventually?
At the beginning of COVID-19 outbreaks in China, the government takes strict actions to lock down the city. The blue walls are built for close local communities preventing Coronavirus.
I shot this series at night, I want to show the spectacular color of the night street and also the contrast to the empty world.
